3 Boys Collage

Catherine from Warner is on her 6th set of WFYH art works with 2 in the pipeline at present.  Frustrated with shopping to find the perfect things and finding time to make everything she wants, she calls us.  Like you perhaps, Catherine is an avid displayer of family portraits and has an abundance of pictures in a box.  And she simply can't bear to throw them out.

Catherine wanted her cherished pictures up on the wall, matching her decor and as a work of art.  Sharron suggested a collage in the shape of her 3 boys and found one providing the perfect silhouette in the box!  If art were easy, everyone would be doing it and even Sharron with her years of experience found this one a trick, you see Catherine's decor had no yellow, blue or bright red in it but teal, blue violet, red violet and red orange.

Anyway, a carefully constructed background of pastel, paint and dribbled gloss medium, with her cut out pictures meticulously arranged, met with Catherine's emotional needs as Sharron grouped similar scenario sets.  Now, what was once a dull wall is now a delightful feast of little boy's antics.

Decor Tips

  • Use only 1/3rd of your space for furniture, the rest should be just space.
  • To create balance, arrange your accent colours so they are evenly scattered.
  • Plants are colour too!  Take them away if they are the wrong green.
  • Choose artwork sizes carefully.  Small artwork on large walls will be lost.  Matching wall proportions will work nicely i.e. a large rectangle on a rectangular wall as long as it is ''lined up''.  Lining large artworks with tops of doors and then 10 cm above any piece of furniture will get your heights right.  Measuring the furniture width or lining up with large lounges deep seems for instance, will ensure the width will work.
  • Dark colours and very bright colours like red will advance whereas colours like yellows and greens will actually recede.  On large artworks, watch out for this and that it may end up dominating your space.

If you would like a photo collage call now to book your appointment or book online and simply post your pictures to us.  We can even scan old trannies and have digital pictures printed off for you.
