6 year old Charlotte Roberts from The Gap wants to be a fashion designer when she grows up. Mum Carly had commissioned "Jungle Jamboree" for son Cameron when he was only 2 and was keen for Charlotte to have an art experience as well.
Together, thinking of Charlottes decor and how it would change with her teenage years approaching and also how she would possibly show off her art when an adult, we designed a retro look, reminiscent of Mondrian's Broadway Boogie Woogie, a famous 60's artwork in the Metropolis Museum in New York. Sharron designed the model figures and then emailed the whole design to Carly, to print out copies so Charlotte could personally design fashions on them.
Meanwhile, Sharron painted the hard edge background and masked it so it would be protected during Charlotte's workshop. Charlotte created several designs, Sharron picked the best and drafted this exactly onto the canvas...and then it was ready.
On the workshop day, on top of the steepest hill Sharron has ever driven up, Charlotte had her fun. Charlottes art and her little brothers, were both then Glass Coated for glossy effect and longevity.
The beauty of this sort of art is it really will encourage Charlotte, every time she sees it in her room, to remember the day, the designing and how easy it was and to keep trying. We want her to visualise this art in her future fashion salon, tell her clients how she painted it as a 6 year old, enjoy the brush marks and vivid colours and to remember just how very clever she was.
